Meet The Founders

“Stories connect us all. They are the thread by which we all grow, learn, and prosper. The hero’s journey from obscurity to triumph is something we can all relate with.”

Ruben Cantu

Stories connect us all. They are the thread by which we all grow, learn, and prosper. The hero’s journey from obscurity to triumph is something we can all relate with.

Ruben has established this caveat at the center of his, and CORE Media Enterprise’s, mission, which is to change the world through social entrepreneurship and thought provoking content.

Defining himself more specifically as a “mediapreneur,” Ruben has been working in media since he was 14 when he hosted his first weekly radio show. During this early period, he established his first company at 18 and won national recognition for his college television show in 2002-2003.

In 2004, he gained a clearer perspective on inner workings of the media industry while working at MTV and Sony Music. He decided that the power of media could still be profitable if it was harnessed to bring awareness to social and environmental issues instead of just selling sensationalism. That idea sparked CORE Media Enterprises which launched in 2007.

CORE Media Strategies is the commercial arm of CORE Media Enterprises, that creates strategies and marketing campaigns through web, high-end video production and experiential activations. He takes these tools and specializes in cause branding, strategic storytelling and sparks cross-cultural conversations.

This work provides the foundation for CORE’s mission of impacting hearts and minds by creating remarkable campaigns for brands that are changing the world. The company’s film division, COREageous Films, reflects Cantu’s extensive background in filmmaking and provides a path for these socially aware and progressive projects to come to light.

Ruben is a first generation college graduate. He holds a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film from the Moody College of Communications and an M.S. in Technology Commercialization from the McCombs School of Business, both from The University of Texas at Austin.

As a social entrepreneur, his ambitions are focused on establishing a platform through media that allows society to reflect on its condition and spur progressive change.

He is also the Executive Director of SocialGood.us a platform for social innovation, action tank and accelerator which is part of the Social Good Summit where he serves as a global connector and Director of Business Development.

Ruben graduated from Leadership Austin’s Essential class of ’14. He was nominated as Entrepreneur of the Year for Austin Under 40 in 2015. He also was nominated for Changemaker of the Year in 2016 by the Austin Young Chamber.

As an international bilingual speaker and trainer on startups and social innovation, he is helping shift the focus onto triple bottom line economics. When not working, he focuses on being a bridge for local community and international issues that break barriers and foster peace and prosperity. He also is an avid music lover and Jeopardy enthusiast.

Koy McDermott

Koy has a massive passion for changing lives and has been obsessed with business since he was a child. After years of working with hundreds of Fortune 500 companies as well as a lot of 7 and 8 figure businesses he found that helping businesses grow was fun, but helping PEOPLE GROW was his real passion.

“Feeling depressed when the sun would set on Sunday night and waking up every morning anxious, not excited for what the day would hold, brought me to a dead end. I knew I could not continue doing what I was doing and be able to live the life I wanted. Leaders Inspire Leaders was created for the personal and professional development of my generational peers, Millennials. To show those who are not satisfied with their current lives that they have a choice and the power to change things for the better. Through the internationally renown podcast, workshops, and coaching we are on a mission to expose 3M Millennials to the possibilities of entrepreneurship.”

Koy knew that with such a large goal he was going to need a platform to collaborate with  successful entrepreneurs, while exposing his generational peers to new and diverse ways of thinking. He has now built the internationally renown podcast, Leaders Inspire Leaders, which is heard in over 160 countries and is regularly an iTunes “What’s Hot Top 100” podcast, with the sole purpose of exposing Millennials to possibilities of entrepreneurship.

A first generation college graduate with a BBA from McCoy’s business school at Texas State University, Koy is a national speaker and trainer with several prominent logos to his credit. Liberty Mutual, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Abbott Labs, SXSW to name a few. He knew his speaking would come full circle the moment he was hired as the keynote speaker for Austin Community College’s Leadership Conference in 2015. Now he spends a lot of his time speaking with college students through the lens of leadership and entrepreneurship.
